Since having a pro b-ball team is fairly recent the fan base is young and urban. The Raptors have a loyal following and do very well in ticket sales. College basketball is much like Americancollegefootball, we watch the playoffs. Most of us played some basketball in high school. We're very proud of Nash, even people who don't follow the sport. He's such a good ambassador, unlike some of those spoiled headcases who (no disrespect intended) are American. He is a truly nice man who works hard with kids and charities and embodies the virtues we would like to see in ourselves. We are having a great year for Canadian MVP's. Justin Morneau - American League MVP. Joe Thorton - NHL MVP. Steve Nash - NBA MVP. A MVP in the NFL would give us a sweep!

Generally people don't follow it. Some do, which is funny because it comes from Canada. Mostly we are a hockey people, then there is the CFL, the Canadian Football League. It is like American football but with slightly different rules and a different sized statium. I mostly just like Hockey and Curling. Most people won't admit it but we like to watch curling.

Men's Basketball: Typically 7 to 8 strong make the NCAA Tournament each year. Indiana, Michigan State and Illinois are virtual locks every year. I am a junior to be in high school..I recently had a slight acl tear which resulted in me missing all of soccer season..i had played football my freshman year butt the football coach left so i thought i would give soccer a try..i played in a leauge during the spring and decided to give it a shot at the high school level..then i got tore my acl in a pickup basketball game..

the football coach wants me to come out and play and thinks he could get me into acollegesomewhere to play QB or even another skill position..i was an ok QB my freshman year but will most likely be backing up a senior QB this year unless i won the job..also im not guaranteed a starting position on the soccer squad..i like both sports butt alot of my really close friends play soccer but my older brother will be a senior on the football team as well..so that also factors in..

just by watching the games, i would go in this order

(1)florida...they are experienced, they know what it takes to win a championship, and they have one of the most talented teams out there

(2)unc...their youth is a concern, but i think they are the deepest and most talented team incollegehoops...they are still inconsistent though, they don't show up to play every night, and when their shooters are having an off night theres no room for hansbrough and wright to do their damage inside

(3)ohio state...just barely behind unc in terms of talent, youth, and inconsistency...they have shown more than once that they can manage not to play their best and still win, but they seem to be not up to how good they can be recently, and that has to concern you come tournament time when everyone is on their game

(4)texas a%26amp;m...not a flashy team, but i think they are clearly underrated in the bottom of the top 10...they have the stingiest defense incollegebasketball, acie law is a playmaker and the best clutch shooter incollegehoops, and they are out there having fun because they have no pressure...they're texas a%26amp;m, it's not a basketball school, so the expectations aren't as high as they are at schools like duke, unc, etc.
What? Has UCLA not proven itself enough to everyone yet, the PAC 10 is one of the toughest confrences in the country, and they beat Texas A%26amp;M Memphis, Washington State, USC twice, and everyone else in the PAC 10. You guys are messed up.

with a GPA that low, you can still get into a D1 school if your ACT or SAT score is high enough. with a 2.5, your ACT score would probably have to be like a 20. it seems unlikely, but a low GPA doesn't mean "not smart," so if you get some study guides and apply yourself, you could probably score high enough to go wherever you want to go. i wish you the best.

Division I has over 300 basketball schools divided among 31 conferences and a handful of independent schools.
You can find a list of all schools in Division I easily enough. Maxwell has a few facts mixed up, though. Florida is NOT the only team to win back to back national titles... his afformentioned UCLA Bruins are also in that category. Also Maxwell cleverly notes that Michigan pays players to be there... but loves Augmon and Larry Johnson from UNLV. Does anyone else see the irony in that?
First off the three top schools for basketball of all time would have to be North Carolina, Georgetown and Duke. There have been COUNTLESS NBA players that came out of those schools... but you have to add UCLA in the factor just because there has NEVER been a coach as successful as Wooden! Florida has made their mark as a basketball school now. No other team has ever won back-to-back National Championships. But, other than those five schools I'd have to list off:

Kentucky (breathes basketball)

St. John's (they've faded off the face of the earth lately)

There are many more Div. I programs besides these. Many Div. I programs may NEVER rank in the "Top 25". Butler University and the Southern Illinois Salukis are relative newcomers to such high ranking. I have known about Butler for years and made lots of money off them with point spreads in legal gambling. Whoever coaches that team should be considered for an NBA job cause he definitely knows his X's and O's.

There are 31 DIVISION basketball conferences. Each CONFERENCE has roughly 10 teams. So, doing the math there are more than 300 DIVISION I BASKETBALL TEAMS in the US of A. There are no DIV I teams in Canada or Mexico.

Also, just because a school has a Division I football team does not mean they have a Division I basketball team or vice versa. St. John's University is an excellent example of this. St. John's is 5th all time in NCAA basketball wins but doesn't even HAVE a football team. Georgetown also has a powerful basketball team most of the time but their football team plays in the Div. I "Patriot" League, compared to the basketball team's Big East campaigns. Not quite on the same level.

In my opinion, UMass will have to play very well against their major conference foes, and either win the A-10 (for an automatic bid) or finish 2nd in that league. They must have a strong showing when they play on national television.

Bids for mid-majors will be conisderably more competetive this season, due to the rise in the competetiveness of the teams from the Missouri Valley Conference this season. Most experts are projecting at least four teams wil come out of this conference.

Memphis game tonight... me and my brother made a bet and i picked Memphis to win and he gace me a 5 point spread and i would win if Memphis won or lost by less than 5 points... vice versa. However, the game finished in a tie (at this moment I'm winning the bet) but the game goes into OT. Kansas wins by over 5 points. My league was very good in high school including two D1 players one in which went to Kentucky. Division 2 is mainly for the great athletes with out a whole lot of skill that coaches think they can make better. I'd say the front runner so far is Texas Forward Kevin Durant. He's averaging 25.3 points per game, and 11.5 rebounds. He's had 3 separate 37 point games, which is amazing considering he's only a freshman.
Even though Durant is the best offensive player in the nation, I think that Tucker will win POY. He's much better defensively and he's definitely got the more mature game of the two. That combined with the fact that Wisconsin is considered to be in the hunt for the national title and Texas isn't will do Durant in.

You realize how hard it is to go D-1?

- What good is you're still a freshman...you probably won't grow much more so you gotta give up the post moves and work on ballhandling and perimeter shooting. A 6'4" frame is perfect for a shooting guard. You must shoot at least 300 jumpshots a day...I'm not kidding!!! YOU MUST!!

- You MUST play hoop year round...not just winter. Sign up for AAU ball in the spring. You play many tournaments and it's great experience. After AAU go to summer camps and clinics. Work on your ballhandling and perimeter shooting.

In fall before winter hoop starts there are fall leagues...join them and play.

- As a freshman, you're ready to hitthe weights. Lift with your school BB team or your school football team. I guarantee the footabll coach won't mind. Plus you need the supervised training. Lift weight 3 times a week.

-Conditioning- RUN!!! Jog 3 to 4 miles, 3 to 4 times a week.

This training is good for duration. You also need to be quick so jumprope everyday and run sprints. Search internet for Plyometrics...this is specific training for quickness. You need

quickness, not height, in the game of basketball these days.

-Eat right...maintain healthy lifestyle....get your sleep...do not stay up late watching movies, playing video games, internet..etc.

Hang with positive people....people that will help you in your goal. People that believe in your dream. Avoid friends who do drugs or drink alcohol. Don't burn yourself out with hoop.

Take time off from training to relax and do other things that make you happy!!

well it would help if you played on a well known team so you get more exposure and so that more scouts come to see you. but if not, then you better work hard and put up some great #s, but if no scouts visit you, make a highlight tape of yourself and send it to the schools you want to go to and hope they give you a call or something.
Hey, good question. I think it'll be hard for you to be a center incollegebut you might make a very tough forward. I'd suggest finding your knack and try to perfect it. If you are a great defender then keep getting better at defense. This is not to say that you shouldn't work on your overall game but it's good to have an identity. Also, talk to your coach about how you can start inserting a perimeter game to your skill set. Since you play center for your school I'm assuming your a great or decent help side defender. (This is an awesome quality for a guard/forward) Also, remember bruce bowen played center throughout high school andcollegeand look at him. In closing, don't necassarioly focus on going to a D1 school, take the bext opportunity given to you and work hard. Sometimes you have to take the road less traveled to get where you want to be. I.E - Division II or III . Keep working hard at your overall game and watch basketball...listen to what some of the commentators have to say about different players. Good Luck!!!
If you don't grow anymore you will be a guard. But I would think you'll at least get another inch or 2 if you're only 14/15. Basically I would suggest working on your ball handling skills and jump shots more so than posting up and down low moves. But you could keep growing a lot so you never know. Some guys get drafted into the nba at age 18/19 and are STILL growing ha ha.

i like hansburough with the tar heels but Eric Gordon with Indiana is a beast he prolly has the best all-around game in college.

Alcindor with UCLA. Won three championships and wasn't really challenged in any tournament. Only lost a couple games in three years, and impacted the game enough to change the rules. Maravich scored, but his team was never really above 500. David Thompson was an outstandingcollegeplayer, only lost 1 game first two years and broke UCLA's string, but Lew is still tops.
For this season, I think BC's, Tyrese Rice, should be the Player of the Year. Being a PG, he has the most impact on the game. He is also the best PG in the country right now. I think he will show his stuff in the ACC Tourney.

I would say it has to be Law. He is the sole leader of the Aggies, can drive/shoot on any defenser, and plays outstanding perimeter defense. Kevin Durant is good at shooting and has good post moves, but he can't pass, is not a good defender, and his team isn't even going to be ranked after this week. Oden isn't on the list because his numbers aren't as spectacular and has current injury problems.

Joakim Noah of Florida. I saw him play in person last year and he's fierce! And he's only a junior!

The odd thing is that the 'lower' divisions actually DO have a playoff, and no one contests the final winner, or national champion in their respective division. So, why the heck can't the 'big boys' get with that sort of program? Could the corporate sponsorship, representing millions to the participating schools have anything to do with the bowl approach? And does a playoff arrangement actually mean the bowl system couldn't still be used? The bowls could just be the regional playoffs. In fact, there might even be more bowls, with the number of schools involved in the BCS system. This one has bugged me for years. Too much controversy every year about who the heck is 'Number one' after the majorcollegefootball season.

One word, MONEY. When a team gets a bowl bid, they also get money. Every bowl gives a certain amount of money, even the small ones with small schools playing in them. If you get rid of the bowl games, they are afraid the money will go with it. Personally, I would like to see a playoff scenario forcollegefootball.

My guess is that, compared to other sports that hockey is very similar to (like field hockey and soccer) which use only two periods, hockey required more upkeep of the playing surface. Two periods of thirty minutes would have the ice surface pretty unplayable by the end of the period.
